Bassist, Composer, Educator and Jazz Enthusiast
Jacob Francis Gordon Saeva (performing as Frank Gordon) was raised around Rochester, New York and from an early age showed intrigue in music. His grandfather, having been a semi-professional musician himself, influenced his love of music by gifting him his first guitar as a boy. Encouraged by his parents, he then took to music in school, playing the Tuba in a school wind ensemble. In his teen years he was gifted a bass guitar, again from his grandfather, and decided that the Bass would become his main instrument. He played throughout high school in ill-fated rock bands and school bands, taking music seriously by his final years of high school.
Frank went on to attended Monroe Community College in Rochester, and it was there that his musical identity truly took root. His growth as a musician was greatly influenced by the nearby Eastman School of Music, allowing for ample opportunities to study with great bassists and jazz composers alike. The atmosphere and reverence for music that the Eastman School is known for rubbed off on him and set the precedence for his love and respect of the craft.
After graduating with an AS in Music Performance, Frank traveled east to attend the esteemed Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. There he was tempered and taught many unforgettable skills, and was exposed to such a vast array of music that “… Boston became my artistic home.” He later returned to the Rochester area to study with his primary mentor, the internationally recognized bassist Danny Ziemann, and completed his studies at SUNY Oswego, earning a BA in Jazz Studies.
Frank is currently located in Western Connecticut, teaching and performing in the greater New York City area. He runs his own fusion band ‘Frank Gordon & The Experience’, and performs with a variety of musicians in duo, trio, quartet and quintets.
